Bouncing bombers... World Championships
The third “bouncing bombers – cannon ball world championships” took place in Dillingen, Germany.
Water sports freaks have turned bombing into the water, bum first and knees up, into a recognised discipline.
International bombers (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, France) launched themselves from a 10 meter high diving board.
35 participants and about 5000 spectators were there to see the fun.
World Hen Racing Championships
The World Hen Racing Championships took place in Bonsall, Derbyshire. Every year about 30 of the world’s fastest chickens run along a track to strict international criteria – they must have both clawed feet on the starting line and no pecking allowed.
Giant pumpkin regatta
The „Giant pumpkin regatta“ was held on a lake in Switzerland. 8 participants carved their pumpkin-boats in the morning and in the afternoon they gave everything paddling their way to the Swiss pumpkin regatta championships.
Life guards were on duty permanently because pumpkins have a tendency to turn over in the water…
Some 3 thousand spectators watched the event.
River football 2006
Water Football takes place once a year in the bubbling brook “Windrush”, that flows down the main street of Bourton-on the Water in Gloucestershire.
Braving the cool water, the teams set up the goalposts under the central bridges and play the game in the knee-deep water.
Despite the brevity of the game – 15 minutes each way - hundreds of people line the banks to cheer their respective teams…
